TANTALUM
- Tantalum is a chemical element with the symbol Ta and atomic number 73. Its atomic mass is 180.94788 u. As a blue-gray, dense and hard metal, tantalum is ductile, corrosion-resistant and highly conductive of heat and electricity. It is also one of the metals with high melting points. Tantalum has a melting point of 3017°C, exceeded only by tungsten, rhenium, osmium and carbon. In nature, tantalum usually co-exists with niobium, which requires a high degree of technology to separate these two elements.
Tantalum, with high stability, is often used in semiconductor manufacturing processes as copper diffusion barrier. It is also applied in soft magnetic layer of perpendicular magnetic recording media to improve writability and thermal stability of recording layer.
SOLAR provides high-purity tantalum targets for semiconductors, tantalum-containing alloys and composite targets for HDD soft magnetic layer, tantalum oxide targets for hard disk head, and materials with a high refractive index for optoelectronics. Meanwhile, we also provide recycling and refining services for tantalum-containing spent targets and wastes to form a closed-loop of the tantalum element.
